For instance, let's say you have a deck, and, that deck is located on the second floor. It would cost you around one and a half times the cost, that it would cost to refinish the same deck, on the ground. Maybe even more.

Some of the factors to consider are as follows:

1. How is the ground below it? how easy it is to access? Is it flat?

2. What style of the spindles does it have? Sometimes they are round, or, square. However, if they are intricate and require more work, they will be a bit more than a standard railing price.

3. What is the decking material made of? Is it cedar, or, some other kind of wood?

4. What shape is the deck in? Will it need any boards replaced?

5. Is it already stained? If so, what kind of stain is on it? And, does it need stripping, brightening, and, sanding? Or, can you just get rid of the loose stuff and throw on another coat or two?

6.  Do the railings really need to be done? Sometimes you can get away with just doing the high use areas like floors.

7. Do you want the whole thing one color? Or, are you going to do a two or three toned deck? These can be costly. However, they are sure to turn some heads as well.

8. What kind of stain should you use? There are many types. There are also, transparent, semi-transparent, and solid colors to choose from. Plus, each one has various levels of protection. Protection from things like, water, mold, and mildew.
